Several of my friends are job hunting and almost every one of them has had a role "cancelled" while they're mid interview process or after they've completed final interviews. I'm so curious to know what would cause for this to be a decently common occurrence.

Two theories: 1. Companies are pumping interview pipelines full of potential candidates. When they find the candidate they want, they drop the rest of the pipeline. 2. Companies not knowing what they actually need when they post openings? Any other theories?
@engineering_bae Companies start the hiring process and then the company goes through layoffs, hiring freeze, budget changes, etc. In those cases, you see the role reposted the next quarter or half if financials change again.
