@AbolitionistFAA I showed more children were born in Texas after the passing of these laws and that the number of surgical abortions went down since Roe. Pro-lifers kept abortion numbers from being higher than they otherwise would have been. "Abolitionists" have accomplished nothing.

I cannot wait to see Meemaw — let’s get this straight. Meemaw is Roseanne Barr’s new eight-episode sitcom, shot in Austin and financed entirely with private investors after Hollywood shut her out. She plays the matriarch of a mixed-race family of preppers on a quest to throw her granddaughter the most fantastic bat mitzvah Texas has ever seen — a semi-autobiographical story about a woman from a liberal East Coast Jewish family who gets disinherited and starts over in Texas. The cast includes Randy Quaid as her husband, Drea de Matteo as her daughter, Omar Gooding, and Doug Jones, with guest spots from Jon Lovitz and Tony Hinchcliffe. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton reportedly has a cameo. Barr calls it “more John Waters” now, and Variety described it as a cross between Roseanne and The Sopranos — a family comedy with a criminal empire underneath. It’s a fully union production, which is deliberate: if a platform passes, the only remaining explanation is politics, and she’s already built that narrative. No distributor has picked it up yet, no release date, and the episodes are just sitting there — though Barr’s Rumble podcast with co-writer Allen Covert is the closest thing to a preview that exists.

Marjoe Gortner passed away at 82. A former Pentecostal child revivalist, he caused a worldwide stir after, as a secret atheist, he let a film crew follow him on the circuit where he revealed the tactics he used to manipulate Christians to maximize profits, seen here: Ordained by his father at age 4, he became a preaching sensation and traveled the country leading revival meetings. Marjoe estimated he and his family took in $3 million before he was 16, roughly $33 million or more in today’s dollars, and that his father abandoned the family and absconded with much of it when he was in his late teens. After taking a break from revivalism, he rejoined the circuit despite not being a Christian, traveling across the country and speaking at churches purely to make a living. Here, he crafted and perfected his showmanship, claiming that he modeled his act after the Rolling Stones’ Mick Jagger. In 1972, in his late 20s, he let a film crew follow him on his final tour, where he openly explained the tactics he and his parents used to manipulate Pentecostal Christians during his tent meetings, including how to fake speaking in tongues, how to get folks riled up in the spirit, and how to manipulate people’s emotions and put them in an emotional frenzy to get the most bang for their buck. Marjoe later became an actor, having a few small parts, and married five times.

As Christa Pike, a woman who tortured a girl to death and took a piece of her victim’s skull as a trophy, receives life saving medical treatment following a botched execution, keep something in mind: many states in this country will not give medical treatment to a baby who survives abortion. In fact several states have specifically repealed laws requiring treatment for infants born alive after an abortion. And every single mainstream Democrat in the country opposes any law to protect infants who survive abortions. So this condemned murderer, who earned her execution through her own choices, is getting more humane treatment than infant children who were given a death sentence through no fault of their own. And every Democrat — every single one, no exceptions — empathizes far more with this murderer than with those babies.

The real lesson of Josiah: righteous law restrains evil while it's enforced, and evil returns when rulers abandon justice. That's not a case against abolition. It's a case for it, and for raising up rulers who won't let the next generation repeal it.
