How proud am I that I heard about the new FDA-approval of a CRISPR gene therapy from one of my students excitedly texting me 15 min after the last class of the semester! I love seeing their enthusiasm! If only it had been approved a week ago when we were discussing it in class!

This year’s Halloween guest lecturer in Genetics was Princess Anna of Arendelle. The students were all appropriately respectful of her royal stature, and seemed to appreciate her thoughts on protein translation.

Had another student ask to join my lab to do research this week, pointing out that they like my teaching style. It’s an awesome feeling, whether heartfelt or disingenuous. Of course, I’m contract teaching faculty with no lab so I couldn’t take her in, but it still felt great.

Status Update - I have now left my position at the @CSHLLibrary , and I am thrilled to announce that starting this fall I will be full-time teaching faculty in Hofstra’s Biology dept, as a Special Assistant Professor. Wish me luck!

This is absolutely heartbreaking news. My two clearest memories of her are her smile and chuckle in the halls of RRL10, & the shock on her face when she got off the elevator to tell our 1st year Genetics class that she just watched the 2nd plane hit on 9/11 & class was canceled.

We and others have now posted two very small case report studies on the use of DNase (dornase alfa) in patients w. COVID-19 as preprints. Approach appears safe - ongoing randomized trials should reveal whether it is effective. preprints.jmir.org/preprint/20200
