@CaraLisette Thank you for this!!! I’ve been constantly getting complimented lately & it’s just fueling my Ed & I hate it. I know bc of body dysmorphia I don’t see that I am thin but I know I’m not healthy. Hearing the compliments from random strangers & family never ever makes me feel good.

Weight loss can also be as a result of an eating disorder, sickness, stress, grief, trauma and so many other things that are harmful, and celebrating it suggests that it doesn’t matter if the person is unhappy or ill as long as they are smaller.

Complimenting someone on weight loss is problematic for lots of reasons. What we are telling people is that they are better when they take up less space, and highlighting that we are paying attention to their bodies.

30 years later, many of those children oppressed by the system are adults with trauma as a result of their school experiences. Not being diagnosed doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Better identification=increase in numbers. Why write about obesity and ND in the same tweet?
