Which method for finding the area of a triangle is easier to understand: chopping off the top half of the triangle to make a parallelogram (giving 1/2*h*b)... OR... duplicating the triangle to make a parallelogram, then finding half its area (bh/2)

I am totally on board the "stop including HW in students' grades" train. My department is not. What are the best arguments out there FOR the practice of making HW completion a part of a student's grade? The ones that I'm aware of are not, IMO, very good. #iteachmath

Starting “Unit 5: Arithmetic in Base 10” in @IllustrateMath 6th grade curriculum tomorrow. Immediately found myself down a duodecimal wormhole. If you need a reminder of why fractions and the long division algorithm are difficult for students to master, try converting in base 12.
