'Wherever I go today in the world, people relate to my music. But they also want to know where I’m from.' — Asa ⏳ Today in 2007, Asa’s debut album was released. For the Nigerian singer, her roots are more than an influence; they are a part of her voice. By embracing her Yoruba language and heritage, she found a way to carry a piece of home into her music, wherever in the world it takes her. 🎥: The Telegraph / YouTube #RPUBLCHistory

@instablog9ja I wonder where these kinda of women get their audacity from?!

The minute a person who has a fully functional brain listens to Fela, who is a multi-instrumentalist, and tells you Fela was a flop musically or doesn't know music, you just know tribal bigotry has retarded his brain. Fela Kuti is a pianist, a multiple saxophonist, and plays the drums (including percussion), trumpet, and guitar. Fela is a composer and a band leader, which means he can lead an orchestra. Fela can also read music. Fela can read keys and notes by ear. Only 0.01% of the entire human population to ever existed has ever been able to reach that musical awareness state. Fela Kuti was all Igbo highlife artists, all Ghana highlife artists, all Fuji and Juju music artists in his era combined in one person. If you ever compare modern DAW-dumping and autotune musicians to a genius musician again, I will gather my friends' association and gather money to arrest you.

Fela wasn't even a good artist, he's more of an activist than a musician! He spoke about bad governance and fought for freedom that is mainly why we respect him till date and forever. But you see when it comes to music? Na big flop! In this modern world his music wouldn't have

LASG, OTHERS JOIN GLOBAL CELEBRATION OF WORLD SANGO FESTIVAL AT AAFIN OYO The Lagos State Government, through the Council for Arts and Culture, joined dignitaries, cultural troupes and visitors from across the globe to celebrate the 2026 World Sango Festival, held on 15th August, 2026, at the historic Aafin Oyo, Oyo State. The World Sango Festival honours Sango, the revered Yoruba deity of thunder and lightning and stands as one of the most profound expressions of Yoruba spirituality and identity, particularly for the people of Oyo. This year’s edition featured a vibrant showcase of traditions, music, dance, and spiritual heritage. Guests experienced colourful royal processions, thunderous Bata and Dundun drumming, captivating masquerade performances, and ancestral storytelling that embody centuries of Yoruba history. Speaking at the event, the Director/CEO, Lagos State Council for Arts and Culture, Mr. Olulowo Idowu Johnson, emphasised that the festival underscores the enduring legacy of Sango as a symbol of strength, justice, and cultural pride.  Beyond its spiritual significance, the festival fosters unity, promotes tourism, and enhances global appreciation of African heritage. As part of the celebration, the Lagos State Council for Arts and Culture Troupe delivered a special performance, presenting a spectacular display of Lagos artistry. The performance highlighted the cultural bond between Lagos and Oyo while showcasing the diversity and vibrancy of Yoruba traditions to an international audience. The Council reaffirmed its commitment to preserving, promoting, and projecting Yoruba culture both locally and globally through strategic partnerships and cultural exchange. The 2026 World Sango Festival at Aafin Oyo once again reaffirmed Oyo as the spiritual home of Sango worship and a premier destination for cultural tourism in Nigeria. @jidesanwoolu @drobafemihamzat @LagosArts @gbenga_omo @gboyegaakosile @BarrBimbola @Mr_JAGs @Riddwane #AGreaterLagosRising #LASG

As we count down to 'Isese Day', let’s set the records straight. There’s a lot of talk about our culture. But what’s Myth and what’s Truth? Swipe to learn 👉 From Ikeja to Badagry to Ikorodu to Lagos Island and to Epe. Across the 5 IBILE Divisions, one thing is clear: Isese is our identity. Isese is not outdated. Isese is not division. Isese is our language. Our values. Our festivals. Our way of life. This August, Lagos honours our roots. Let’s learn from our culture, not assumptions. Let’s protect it. Let’s celebrate it. Get your mind ready. Be Proud. Be Yoruba. Source: LASG #IseseDay #CountdownToIsese #MythVsTruth #PreserveOurHeritage #TheIBILECulture #IseseIsWhoWeAre #AGreaterLagosRising #LASG

@kicksbyx The great Skrtel! Love him! Thorough red.

A moment they want to remember. The Turks and Caicos Island team wanted to take a group photo after their 4x100m heat, but there was no photographer available at the time to take a photo of them. "Photos please, anyone? Please, photos..." they pleaded with some of the few photographers who seemed to have other priorities at the time. Eventually, they got the photo, and hopefully they will get to see it.
