Worth adding: on TerminalBench 4.0 in the same index, DeepSeek V4.1 Flash scores 42.3 in Claude Code but only 28 in Codex. So the harness didn't cost it much on FrontierCode, but it clearly did on terminal tasks. How much the harness matters depends a lot on which benchmark you're looking at.

Artificial Analysis just switched the coding part of its Coding Agent Index to FrontierCode, Cognition's benchmark that grades a change on whether a maintainer would merge it. That's a better question than whether a model got some unit tests to pass. A patch can go green and still be something nobody would accept. I'd still be careful reading the middle of the table. FrontierCode has 100 tasks. A failed attempt scores zero and a passing one scores somewhere between 70% and 100%, so each task is worth up to a point. At around 45%, ordinary sampling noise on 100 tasks is roughly five points either way. Fifteen of the 24 configurations land between 43% and 49%. I wouldn't rank those against each other with much confidence. The index also scores a model and its harness together. That's realistic, since nobody runs a model without one, but it means a gap between Codex with one model and Claude Code with another doesn't tell you which half earned it. Some people asked why DeepSeek V4.1 Flash ran in Codex instead of DeepSeek's own harness. It didn't seem to hurt much. Flash in Codex came second on FrontierCode at 52.6%, behind Opus 5.5 in Claude Code at 56.0%. The part a merge-or-not score doesn't capture is the second try. In real work the first approach often gets rejected. Then the agent has to change course in the same repo without dragging the failed attempt along or leaving stray edits behind. That recovery is a lot of what you actually pay for. Cost makes that more interesting. On the index's cost frontier, Codex with Flash scores 47.3 at $0.39 a task, while Claude Code with Opus 5.5 scores 61.7 at $11.42. If a cheaper setup recovers well on the second try, the gap could look quite different from how it looks on first attempts.

@S1r1u5_ @rauchg The part that seems hardest to me isn't running the proofs, it's writing the spec. For something like Chromium, deciding what "correct" even means across every web API is a huge project on its own, and a proof only covers what the spec actually says.

@rubenssoto_ai Wild that it used about 20x the input tokens and still came in cheaper. In an agent loop that's usually the same context getting re-sent every turn. I'd ignore the 8 hours until it's rerun off the free tier, though.

@rafaelmateo @JoshuaSWarren @grok They don't really pool. The card only has its own VRAM, 8GB on a standard RX 7600, and whatever doesn't fit runs on the Mac side instead. For a 7B model that's fine. Bigger models get split, and the part on the Mac side sets the pace.

73.7% on DeepSWE is a strong number. Artificial Analysis just swapped DeepSWE out of its coding index for FrontierCode, which grades on whether a maintainer would merge the change, so a FrontierCode score would make M3.1 Flash a lot easier to compare against the current top of that list.

@IliyaOblakov Planting known renames is a good idea. That gives you an actual miss rate instead of a feeling. I don't have a magic number for the sample. I'd start by checking most of them, then cut back once it's reliably catching the planted ones.

@clgssss Same. If the order moves even a little, that would say the first-pass number is hiding something, and the cost column would start to matter a lot more.

@eliadeleoai That's the trade. Tests were narrow, but you could rerun them and get the same answer. A merge bar is closer to what actually matters, and a checklist per task probably helps, but how often two graders agree is still the number that tells you whether it holds up.

@IliyaOblakov A model is probably fine for a first pass, since "did the approach change" is a much narrower question than "is this good." I'd still have a person check a sample, especially the ones it marks as a real change. That's where a rename would slip through.

From the writeup, FrontierCode scores each task against a list of blocking and non-blocking checks rather than one yes or no, which should help with consistency. The model judge they mention is on the repo Q&A part, with five votes per criterion. An agreement rate with real maintainers would still be useful to publish.

@IliyaOblakov Not that I've seen, at least not as a published number. The same-idea-with-new-names case is the one that worries me too. A reviewer skimming the diff could easily read it as a real change.

@silic2023 Agreed, those should be two separate tests. Giving everyone the same rejected patch is the only way to compare the repair step on its own. The own-failure version is still worth running, since that's closer to how it actually goes.

@waynenilsen @vercel Especially on the vendor side. Every customer shows up with a different identity provider, so you need per-customer trust setup, signature checks against keys that rotate, and some kind of token exchange. A static key is just a lookup in your own database.

@BottleCapAI Worth noting if you're running this in agents: on τ²-bench the thinking-token savings are about 22.5%, not the 51% headline, which comes from RealWorldQA. Accuracy there barely moved (0.17pp), so it's a smaller win but a pretty safe one.

@framer @RyanJ_KOL Good to hear. The preview I'd want most is per breakpoint. A padding change on desktop can look fine there and still push something off on mobile, and that's easy to miss if you only check the view you were editing.

@The_Alex So the timeline doesn't go away, it just becomes where you review the cut instead of where you make it.

@ABAOProductions @Maxon_Cinema4D The XPresso rig is the part I'd care most about. A propeller that spins up and settles at the right RPM is something you can open and tweak later, not a pile of keyframes you'd have to redo for the next shot.

What I like is that remembering the paper only gets an agent back to the original score. It still has to beat it to pass. But starting from a remembered method and tuning it is a lot easier than finding a new idea, so how close the passing patches stay to the original approach matters.
