The very first language I learned was assembler; then IITran, then COBOL and FORTRAN, and a bit of PL/1. Then it was back to assemblers for me for a decade -- until in 1979 I found C. (Though I did dabble in SNOBOL, FOCAL, ALCOM, and BASIC just for fun).

C was one of the languages that changed my life. Prior to C I was an assembler bigot. No so-called "hi level" language was worth considering. Then I read K&R and realized that I had been wrong. C captured the power of assembler in a much more convenient syntax.

Call the sum of consecutive reciprocals (1/1+1/2+1/3+1/4...) S(n), where n is the denominator of the last reciprocal in the sum. So S(1) is 1, and S(2) is 3/2, etc. Given an integer I, there is an N where S(N-1) < I <= S(N). Does the ratio of N/(N-1) converge, if so, to what?
