@MrsSheehanMath Very frustrating. Is this apathy, tech failures, or family issues, or ? Our students know they will get 50% for not doing the assessment. If they figure they won't do better than that if they take it, there is no incentive to try.

@SteeleThoughts There is a lot of evidence the when you treat your employees like you value them, they will treat the customers the same way.
@robertkaplinsky @Calculord I agree that the bulk of what we do should fit there, but I definitely think we don't need to live there all the time. I never would have grown to love math if real-world context were my only exposure.
@robertkaplinsky @Calculord This seems rather dismissive. How is there not value in abstract problem-solving and the beauty of mathematical patterns and connections? Is this relegated to the privileged? Do we assume that certain kids will have no interest in anything that isn't relevant to their lives?
@ModestTeacher I agree, but won't half the teachers be falling asleep before the end of the school day.
@mathLoriFury Maybe if we start by asking predictions that are contextual. Do you think the ball will go in the basket? Will she have enough money to ...? Maybe give them ranges and have them guess which one the answer will fall in?
