We need more information; what criterion was used to 'evaluate' when all the stated requirements were fulfilled? Should we believe the conspiracy theories @NAQSng

@Her_Nonymous_D The guy took the blames and probably 'stigma' for family; 1st for a useless father and then for an undeserving wife... May we never be like him.

On the Igbo Muslim issue, there are papers recording Igbo conversions into Islam as early as the 1930s. One interesting academic paper is "Being Igbo and Muslim: The Igbo of South-Eastern Nigeria and Conversions to Islam, 1930s to Recent Times" by Egodi Uchendu (UNN). Uchendu's research names a certain Garba Oheme from Enugu as the first known Igbo convert in 1937. He was 29 at the time and from Enugu Ezike in the old Nsukka division. He converted in Calabar. By 1990, Igbo Muslims were estimated to be about 10,000 (though the author cites this number with caution) out of the then population of 16 million Igbos. In another paper, titled "'Islam Does Not Belong to Them': Ethnic and Religious Identities among Male Igbo Converts in Hausaland", Douglas Anthony tells an interesting story of Abdullahi Okere a native of Egbele Obube (Imo State) who converted to Islam in Lagos in 1973. Interestingly, Okere in his search for more Islamic knowledge was directed to Sheikh Abubakar Mahmud Gumi (father of the current Sheikh Gumi) under whom he studied Islam for a year. (Okere also lived with Gumi in that period). Sheikh Abubakar Gumi then advised him not to go back to Lagos but to deepen his study of Islam, and then helped him get a scholarship at the Jama'at al-Da'wah al-Islamiyya in Benghazi, Libya in 1974. Okere was there for two and a half years studying Islam. He then got another scholarship from the Libyan Ministry of Education, and moved to the science faculty at Al-Fattah University, where he got a bachelor's degree in animal husbandry in 1981. After Abdullahi Okere got his degree, he worked for the Libyan Ministry of Agriculture for three years. He returned to Nigeria in 1984, performed the year of National Youth Service and then went back to Egbele Obube and became a teacher. He bought land in the village, built a small mosque and by 1990, through his proselytism, he had converted about 15 persons there. He was also elected in the village as chairman of the Egbele Obube Improvement Society. In 1991, he moved to Kano and became a teacher there. Both papers are easy to find online, or in libraries.
