Fortunately, our weather is quiet today, but 13 years ago today was a different story. On April 27, 2011, a massive tornado outbreak unfolded across the region. The strongest tornado in Georgia was an EF-4 that devastated parts of Catoosa County. weather.gov/ffc/20110427_s…
Thanks to rain-cooled are from storms in Kansas, our severe threat continues to diminish and shift south. However, areas south of I-80 should still be on guard for potential strong to severe thunderstorms moving in from the southwest late this evening and tonight!
Damage surveys are still in progress today. Our 5 survey teams are finding evidence consistent with at least EF-3 strength in some areas. The preliminary ratings will be shared as soon as we collect and analyze more data. We will provide additional details as soon as we can!

One last stat.... The all-time most tornado warnings in a single day was achieved by @NWSJacksonMS on September 25, 2005 when they issued 102!!
The previous "record" by @NWSOmaha was 33 tornado warnings on May 12, 2023. The most that the NWS Hastings office has ever issued in a single day is 27 (May 6, 2015). And we are happy to keep it that way.
