Somewhat separate phenomenon but also the number of supposedly anti-Trump people who seem quite giddy whenever Trump rises in the polls or DeSantis struggles is kind of remarkable.

It's not even subtle, there usually isn't even the pretense of trying to propose some non-DeSantis alternative to Trump.
@NateSilver538 I think the idea that “mainstream” coverage of Trump is driving GOP primary voters views on him is a perfectly reasonable hypothesis but I’m skeptical.
@NateSilver538 It’s almost like they don’t want either of them to win. Gosh. Beguiling!
@NateSilver538 I am very late to this convo, but being anti-Trump doesn’t mean there aren’t worse options. DeSantis has the same ideological principles with more pol exp & ability that could cause way more damage. Also, he tortured people in Gitmo so like… idk hating him more seems reasonable.
@NateSilver538 Yeah, I don't understand why people think Trump is obviously going to lose the general election if nominated. He came pretty close to winning in 2020 even with all his obvious disadvantages!
@NateSilver538 I do think this would have been very different before the midterms, but once it became how clear of a liability Trump seems to be with independents…well, the logic seems pretty obvious from there for Dems on Twitter, no?
@NateSilver538 “It’s weird to me that you claim to be anti-diarrhea but you aren’t a fan of this other form of diarrhea”
@NateSilver538 A lot of think DeSantis would make an even worse president than Trump. Plus there is the salutary pleasure of watching bad people fight one another.
@NateSilver538 He is (rightly or wrongly) seen as beatable now. And quite tainted. So the presumption is he's preferable to DeSantis because he's a known adversary with weaknesses.
