@NorthBayToday @NBRHC Martin, not Yaroslav, was the board member and donor. Martin did not fight in WWII. He has served this community & deserves recognition for that. The foundation should return all of the $$ that Martin & Theresa donated. Other donors should demand that their $$ be returned too.

Russia has started trials against some of the Ukrainian POWs from Azovstal. Many of them are likely to be sentenced to life in prison for defending their motherland. Others might die of starvation before a verdict is delivered.

My Baba & Gido and their kids were some of a small number of villagers to survive. Many Ukr men faced certain death at the hands of the RA. They shouldn’t be applauded for joining the SS, but should be judged with empathy.

@Yd__Te @CarymaRules And assuming a person holds the same beliefs as others in a group is an example of prejudice and stereotyping. Nazis are bad. They did horrific things. But the Deschenes Commission stated, after a 2 yr investigation, that the immigrants to Canada were not guilty of war crimes.

@Mark_Goldberg Wish I didn’t have to. I’m not ashamed of my beliefs. But my community is small. And I’ve experienced harassment. I’m not supporting the ties this man has to Nazis. But his endowment fund supported students who are now impacted by this. I just think we need to be objective…

There had just been a genocide of Ukrainians and other Slavs through starvation. He had to make a hard choice. It may have been the wrong one, but life was complicated and hard.

@Miralek Are you sure he was a Banderite? Are you are referring to his hatred towards Russia? Because that was very well founded. The Soviets were as brutal as the Nazis.
