@ocdrecovery That's exactly what I see in my OCEer partner

@Peacerayy After years of living alongside severe OCD, I can honestly say: sometimes it feels like madness from the other side too. The exhaustion, frustration and constant restrictions can be brutal.

@thedigitaldash_ I don’t have OCD, but I’ve lived alongside severe OCD for years. I’ve seen how far beyond the popular “clean and organised” stereotype it can be — and how deeply it can affect the person living beside it too. I write about that side of OCD.

@Ife_oluwa_ @ClintonAlaoma This resonates. I’ve been living alongside severe OCD for years, and one of the things I’ve learned is how much of it happens beyond what people see. I write about that side of OCD — the impact on the person living alongside it.

Returning home, I have to walk like a robot, avoid the walls, strip off immediately, then get to the shower without touching anything. One minute outside or ten hours. Same ritual. What frustrates me most is that leaving my own house has become so exhausting. (2/2)

I don't have OCD. My partner does. But leaving the house can feel like a test I have to pass. She watches how I move, making sure my clothes don't touch the walls or doors. I'm so tense I sometimes forget the things I actually went out for. And coming home is worse. (1/2)

16/16 That's what I mean by writing from the other side of OCD. I don't have OCD. But living beside severe OCD has changed my time, choices, routines and freedom. The compulsions are visible. The impact on the person beside them is much easier to miss.

1/16 I think it's difficult to understand severe OCD until you understand the fear beneath it. From the outside, you see the washing, checking, avoiding and repeating. What you don't see is the uncertainty that drives them.

14/16 I don't say this because I think my partner is choosing to restrict my life. She isn't choosing the fear. She isn't choosing the questions or the uncertainty. But understanding that doesn't erase the effect it has on me.

13/16 There are things I miss without always knowing how to name them. Time disappears into routines. Plans become too complicated. Sometimes nothing dramatic happens. Something simply becomes harder than it's worth. Eventually, you stop doing it.
