The Outer Circle Railway - the original suburban rail loop. The old road overpasses built by John Monash still look in pretty good condition. One day I'm going to have to walk the whole thing.

@metrotrains @danielbowen @Library_Vic @ptv_official @TransportForVic @VLine @TramMuseum @PRO_Vic @yarratrams Remember that the City Circle is 4 lines with a much great carrying capacity than the old Inner Circle. The great mistake was the destruction of the still inchoate Outer Circle. It would have alleviated crowding and improved access to the system.

Today's historic pic: A 3-car Comeng electric train on an Alamein to Camberwell shuttle approaches Riversdale, Vic, August 1 1987. Riversdale is in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne 11km from downtown. The Alamein line is the last operating vestige of the Outer Circle railway.
