🚨🚨 Amazing work from one of our new pilots in @NWDevonPolice! This was his first ever live misper deployment too…so he’s set the bar high with a 100% record! Without doubt it’s a life saved, which probably wouldn’t have had the same outcome if the drone wasn’t available.

Final day of flying on our latest three week initial police drone pilots course. it’s fair to say the weather has been challenging this week. Today we flew a @DJIEnterprise Avata in a fairly complex building. Spaces available on the next course starting at the end of April
It’s always nice to see commanders watching the footage that we live stream back to Ops rooms and know that it adds value to them! During the bomb’s movement, we had 3 drones up at different locations providing multiple views & assisting with maintaining the huge cordon.

It’s taken a lot of work to get here but @DC_Police is now 1 of only 3 police forces in the UK to be an RAE (approved by the @UK_CAA to deliver GVC training). This week saw 8 pilots from D&C, @dorsetpolice & @gwentpolice pass the GVC. Now on to 2 weeks of police-focused training.

Day 1 of the first 3-week initial drone training course in 2024, with students from @DC_Police, @dorsetpolice & @gwentpolice…it all begins with the GVC! We’re now a @UK_CAA authorised ‘RAE’ meaning we’re 1 of only 3 police forces in the UK that can deliver this GVC training.

We’ve recently completed annual night flying requals for our pilots. We ran scenarios involving a static person (using our thermal manikin),some having a moving misper & scenarios had both static & a moving person. Once found, the remote pilots had to then guide an officer (½)
Did you know if you own or fly a drone in the UK you need: ‘OperatorID’ if it’s +250grams OR if it’s under 250g & has a camera (so all 249g DJI’s) ‘FlyerID’ if using a drone +250g, even if it’s someone else’s! Although we’d strongly suggest getting one even if it’s under 250g!

When you’re deployed as one of the @PoliceDrones teams on @ArmedForcesDay in Falmouth and you’re best mate of over 20 years is the pilot of the @RoyalNavy Merlin display! Don’t think either one of us would have predicted this 20 years ago when we were sat together in school! 😂

This video might not look much and doesn’t do it justice but it cannot be underestimated how valuable & important a resource like a drone (and pilot!) can be in finding people who need our help. Literally helping to save lives but also saving huge amounts of officer time in
Another great result from one of our West Cornwall ARV pilots! At around 2.30am in complete darkness in a rural area, he was instrumental in using the drone’s thermal camera to find a vulnerable person & then guide officers in to the exact location where they were needed.
Our team don’t just fly drones…we’re still ‘normal’ police officers too. Today, we initially assisted the search with a drone but when moving to a different location, we followed up on a report from a member of the public and we’re glad to say, we were able to find Brenda.
Another little assist for us… A few teenagers got lost in a rural area but good work by everyone meant they were found quickly. With it being hazardous in the dark with only torches, we used our spotlight to light up their route out so they could see where they were going. 👀

The choice of language when people discuss those being policed is often interesting/telling. Child, boy/girl, youth, teen, young person, young adult, adult, wo/man. Heavily overlapping, each has different connotations regarding vulnerability/maturity.

@breakingryan1 @metpoliceuk It’s incredibly rare. And taser less harmful than other options. I’m equally uncomfortable about a child running around trying to use a hammer and shears as weapons, and a parent having to urgently call police officers to resolve it.
