Very few kids in the UK ever took sick days for even physical illnesses when I grew up, and as a result we have a culture of adults who see illness, physical or mental, as a weakness. My mum took the same attitude as you so I never understood the "stuff upper lip" (3)

This is so so so important, as someone with a DCD and chronic illness I often have to take more time off work than others, but work in a society that doesn't understand this, and it's soul crushing to have to worry about losing your job in top of this, but as a kid (2)
