@OCTGman This is almost certainly a hoverfly larva, Phil, though I wouldn't like to commit myself to species.

@MundyStuart @mark02962403 Hi Stuart, I think this is a hoverfly larva, probably Episyrphus balteatus (Marmalade fly)

We last found Pedostrangalia revestita in 2019 in Monks Wood , Cambs, so we were thrilled to find him again today in a local wood about 5 miles away from home. @NLonghornRS

@BritishBugs @rockwolf74 We though we knew our shieldbugs but this one (about 7-8mm) found at Ketton Quarry, Rutland today has us confused. Looks like Sciocoris homalonotus but a long way from home.

@BritishBugs @rockwolf74 It's a disused part of a still active limestone quarry. A SSSI site now managed by the Wildlife Trust. Mainly scrub and calcareous limestone plants. Today's find with a 21st species of shieldbug we've found there.

@BritishBugs @rockwolf74 I read the focal distance of subject from the photo exif data and overlay this with graph paper photographed at the same distance. I set up a layered photoshop document for the job.

@BritishBugs @rockwolf74 I'm afraid not, Tristan. We only observe and photograph - never collect. Sorry

@EkGraham We were at Glapthorn on Fri 1st, and we heard at least one. There was also a mention in the book of one heard on 26th.

@OCTGman I'm happy to have a look at them, Phil. I'm not too hot on flies but willing to give it my best shot. Where can I see them?

@Billmansfield8 I did hear from him about 3 weeks ago and sent the info he asked for via email. I haven't had acknowledgement yet, so a bit unsure he's received it.
