This is quite the read. "Optimistically, I keep MSPs well-informed on prescient details of issues in my assigned topic areas. Pessimistically, I cherry-pick data, misrepresent issues and generate spin in order to help push political grievances."

My office was right by the encampment, and I cannot understand how it interferes with exams. It’s that little red circle. Not a single notable the protest in the history of modern protest would meet the requirements of “acceptable” protest from many past free speech advocates.

Feeling sorry for John Swinney, who unlike every other “reluctant” candidate for a top job in politics appears actually to *be* reluctant.
If you fancy helping a desperate textbook author to update this simplistic table (“What the media provide at elections”) for a country you know about (yes, it’ll be Czechia now), do hit reply. 😳
Lots of folks are going to compare Yousaf to Truss, legitimately in some ways. I hope they'll at least acknowledge that Yousaf, unlike Truss, acknowledged that the end of his First Ministership was his own doing. Much more reflective, which is commendable.
While everyone's waiting for Humza Yousaf to speak, a few thoughts on what the polls tell us about his potential successors, and how the parties might expect to fare if they can't agree one and there's a Holyrood election. 🧵
Imagine if you’re the kind of person who pays only passing attention to politics and suddenly you’re reading that Alex Salmond is telling Humza Yousaf he needs to support independence.
The state of play: Labour: The FM is finished, call an election Lib Dems: The FM is finished, call an election Tories: The FM is finished, even if he survives vote Greens: We have no confidence in the FM Alba: Please peruse our menu of independence options
The thing is, the SNP+Regan don’t have the votes to *implement* any demands, only to block things, so even if this could stop the no confidence vote there would need to be a rapprochement with the Greens (or another party) for Holyrood to pass anything.

Just hilarious. Rishi was finally getting write-ups for a “good week” and now a Tory MP’s defected. The man simply cannot catch a break. 10/10, no notes.

One reason people love the menswear guy is his social liberalism combined with his deep knowledge of tailoring permits an engagement with tradition, craft and masculine expression in a space uncaptured by right wing culture warriors. This is also why he makes people so angry
Yes the menswear guy is a guy is a lib who makes fun of conservatives a lot, but it’s very funny how mad this makes online conservatives, like shouldn’t the expert on traditional tailoring be a conservative? Why can’t the online conservative ecosystem produce its own menswear guy
@mrjamesmack Ah no. It was much better when it was first class from Haymarket to Waverly.
In delivering its primary aim: securing the election of governments chosen by and accountable to the Scottish electorate.
Genuine question: in what sense can Scottish devolution be considered a success?
This is my cack-handed way of saying I'm proud to say I got a promotion.
This is a very important initiative for people who don't live near their local polling station.
No one should have to pay Sadiq Khan £12.50 to vote. Today I am calling for Sadiq Khan to put the politics to one side and suspend the ULEZ on polling day, so no one is disenfranchised by his ULEZ tax. dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1…
feels increasingly likely that the Tories will hold both West Midlands and Tees Valley and the client press will conclude from this that everything is now fine and we'll get another three weeks of "TORY TURNAROUND??" headlines even though they just lost 400 councillors

to briefly Swinneypost seriously: unconvinced that crowning a widely respected veteran and delaying the fairly brutal party civil war that probably needs to happen at some point is actually in the SNP's interests in the long run, but I can certainly see the temptation *now*
deleted my museums tweet because I'd forgotten that I don't like it when people don't agree with me
Other than the bit where he said independence was "frustratingly close", I thought that was a good, graceful resignation speech in which Yousaf owned his mistakes and showed signs of proper self-reflection.
will I still think this in 2027 when Labour are polling at 28% and Angela Rayner is replacing Wes Streeting in Downing Street? who can say.
okay yes, people vote for MPs and MSPs, this is how representative democracy works, but I do think that once the party in power is switching leader *for the second time in a term* a sort of 'come on now' election should arguably kick in
I wouldn't necessarily believe anything Salmond says but if this is true then he means that the "deal" was blocked by the people who know him best.
Alba leader Alex Salmond has said Humza Yousaf was attempting to do a deal with his party as late as this morning before being blocked by what he called the SNP’s “old guard”. holyrood.com/news/view,alex…
god it's going to be a weird bash for his 40th isn't it x.com/jaheale/status…
Lots of folks are going to compare Yousaf to Truss, legitimately in some ways. I hope they'll at least acknowledge that Yousaf, unlike Truss, acknowledged that the end of his First Ministership was his own doing. Much more reflective, which is commendable.
Just reported on BBC that the Tories have said they could work with Kate Forbes as FM on certain issues if Independence was put to the side.
