Revisiting MarineLand last week and seeing Smooshi the walrus for the first time in a decade was like going back into a nightmare to finish a dream. The park is even more decrepit and cruel than ever. Once we’ve removed the walruses, we’re coming back for the whales & dolphins.

@sarahboesveld The right answer is realizing that children are at tiny risk from Covid and huge risk from school closures. It is realizing that people of great privilege are making decisions which devastate the vulnerable and voiceless.

Confirmed: Another MarineLand beluga whale has been buried. There are now 40 remaining from 58 in 2020. They’re dying off at a catastrophic rate. How many more have to “disappear” before they are charged with animal cruelty?? #RIP

Many people still don’t understand this. Boards have not made it clear. Under Peel’s “community learning model” (ie. hybrid) my colleagues and I will be teaching in person and online students at the same time. Doesn’t matter which model you sign up for, you get half a teacher.

You don't have to hire the greatest teachers to have the best team. But you do have to build trust, develop relationships, treat them professionally and give them the tools to be their best.
