I hate taking Aboriginal law/TRC classes as a Metis person because you have to sit there as people use the Indian slur because that’s a legal term that has specific meaning in Canadian jurisprudence. Every time I’m reminded of when that word has been used to hurt me.

June 21, National Indigenous Peoples Day reflection on the state of Indigenous languages like Nehiyawewin. As a 40 yo, 1st gen non-fluent Cree speaker I have had to resign from a job to focus on language learning. My dad is 72, if I don’t learn, our language in my family ends.

Nobody can get through to income support for weeks now! Puts you on hold then after ten minutes or so tells you to call back another time and hangs up on you. The most vulnerable are left without supports or answers. #AbLeg @jasonluan88
