A 20 year old’s opportunity cost of consumption IS VERY HIGH due to the amount of compounding an equivalent investment can achieve. It is very hard to feel this intrinsically due to hyperbolic discounting and even harder to align decisions and actions to this due to social norms.

Like it or not, you’re already optimizing your life. The only question is: toward what?

Spending money is actually a concealed way of spending our time, physical, and mental resource. How we spend money determines how much we respect our limited life resources.

Money is an IOU for the value we generate with our time, physical and mental resource. This IOU can be used for: 1) Consumption for mental and physical resource 2) Investment to increase the IOU When you no longer need to invest your life resources for IOUs you are time free.

Time freedom is when you can sustain your desired lifestyle without any further input of your primary life resources (time, mental, and physical resource). As a consequence, you are not obligated to be in a particular place, at a particular time.
