I am very interested in the history of the Church from 1830 - 1844. I think that Church effectively ended when Joseph Smith died, and the two major sects to emerge from the original Church were the LDS and the RLDS. Both went seperate paths, and the differences are fascinating.
I believe Joseph Smith had visions, but I do not believe these visions were identical to what is now the official Church narrative. He likely edited them to fit his agenda (whatever that was), and some claimed visions were likely false (like John the Baptist).
The Church only releases numbers when it makes them look good. They’re incredibly dishonest about how they present their data. Of those 90,000, I bet at least half leave the Church within the next 5 years. You won’t see that kind of data being shared with members.
The 90,000 LDS missionaries is a bit of an illusion. A temporary surge. It’s called a double-cohort wave. When the church lowered the age for sister missionaries to 18, it opened the floodgates. You suddenly get 18-year-olds entering the field at the exact same time as the
