A jellyfish evolved back into a single cell, doesn't need oxygen, and now lives parasitically inside the cells of other animals. Repeat: there's a single-celled jellyfish vibing O2-free INSIDE OTHER ANIMAL CELLS. Meet the hook-shaped intracellular jellyfish parasite Myxozoa 😈
Look at these cute lil single-celled anoxic jellyfish parasite bbs 🥹 📸 bit.ly/42DYjM1 (+ O2 source)
@RebeccaRHelm I shared this with my brother, who studies ion channels and their evolution in Cnidarians! He had some…strong feelings about them 😂
@RebeccaRHelm i believe it lives in some birds, and therefore.... a jellyfish has achieved powered flight! which is pretty cool. next on the agenda... when will HeLa evolve to survive outside labs.... imagine single celled human/virus hybrids crawling around in the soil/mud!
@RebeccaRHelm alright two questions, one dependent on the other. how harmful is it to the host, and where can i get some
@RebeccaRHelm Biology is so much fun. Where else can you find this kind of thing outside of Sci fi?
