Brothers (2009) — ★★★ Gyllenhaal and Maguire give this war drama powerful moments, but its emotional depth never quite matches its performances. Full Review: the-lasting-image.com/post/brothers-… Letterboxd: boxd.it/gQJCjB #Brothers #FilmReview #WarDrama
M (1931) ★★★★ An ominous whistle, uneasy silence, and a manhunt that turns into a disturbing debate about mob justice. Full Review: the-lasting-image.com/post/m-1931 Letterboxd: boxd.it/gQ6qHN #M1931 #FritzLang #FilmReview
The Passion of Joan of Arc (1928) — ★★★★ The best silent film I’ve seen so far. Full Review: the-lasting-image.com/post/the-passi… Letterboxd: boxd.it/gOUjDr #ThePassionOfJoanOfArc #SilentFilm
Gravity (2013) — 2.5/5 Gripping first half, beautiful images of space, and immersive sound. The increasingly far-fetched second half lost me again on rewatch. Full Review: the-lasting-image.com/post/gravity-2… Letterboxd: boxd.it/gO6K49 #Gravity #SciFi #FilmReview
THE GENERAL (1926) — 3.5/5 A train battle on a massive scale, with striking camera work and wit that still lands. Full Review: the-lasting-image.com/post/the-gener… Letterboxd: boxd.it/gO2ssp #TheGeneral #SilentFilm #BusterKeaton
The Only Living Pickpocket in New York (2026) — ★★★★☆ An authentic ode to NYC, with Turturro, Buscemi, and an ending that left me at peace. Full Review: the-lasting-image.com/post/the-only-… Letterboxd: letterboxd.com/evanpiascik/fi… #TheOnlyLivingPickpocketInNewYork #NYFF
Battleship Potemkin (1925) — ★★★☆☆ Striking cinematography and unexpected brutality. My attention drifted, but the tension of the sailors’ mutiny pulled me back in. Full Review: the-lasting-image.com/post/battleshi… Letterboxd: letterboxd.com/evanpiascik/fi… #BattleshipPotemkin #SilentFilm
Misty Green's best question: is the dream worth what it takes from you? Chris Rock's film is uneven, but Daniel Kaluuya makes every scene he's in count. Full review: the-lasting-image.com/post/misty-gre… Letterboxd: letterboxd.com/evanpiascik/fi… #MistyGreen #FilmReview #NYFF
Sandra Hüller is excellent in Rose (2026). The farm work and landscapes stayed with me more than the plot. I admired the ideas more than I enjoyed the film. Full review: the-lasting-image.com/post/rose-2026… Letterboxd: letterboxd.com/evanpiascik/fi… #Rose2026 #FilmReview #NYFF
I connected with Andrew Haigh's A Long Winter more than All of Us Strangers. Mikey's growing understanding of his family makes the ending land. Full review: the-lasting-image.com/post/a-long-wi… Letterboxd: letterboxd.com/evanpiascik/fi… #ALongWinter #FilmReview #NYFF
