Sketch and Tell is my go-to dual coding strategy. We use it daily when learning new information. During retrieval practice and exams, it’s clear which information students dual coded and which they didn’t. Their memory traces are so much stronger when both channels are engaged.

@SciInTheMaking I think high frequency questioning works wonders. I’ve been tracking “number of requests/minute” and I’ve noticed a meaningful increase in student engagement. Helps that phones are banned too.

Go into this year thinking: It isn't necessarily how much students cover. It's about how much students can remember. If students can not remember what you taught them 2 weeks ago, they never learned it; they were only taught it. Learning is a change in long-term memory.

Awesome! Go Ms. Sam! Really simple questions, asked rapidly keep pupils on their toes & they are enjoying the increased participation. As you keep the routine up, you can weave those questions in more & more seamlessly & without the instructions. Kudos for sharing bravely 💪🏼
