@DeanoSauruz @SallyJack3books @sesamestreet 2/ New York, the largest and most important city in the US, was founded by the Dutch when they first settled the harbor area there in 1609.

@DeanoSauruz @SallyJack3books @sesamestreet 1/ Leaving aside that the continent was inhabited before any Europeans arrived: Oldest city in the US: St Augustine, FL, founded by the Spanish in 1565, twenty years before the failed Anglo settlement at Roanoke (1585) and forty-two years before first permanent one at Jamestown.

@SallyJack3books @sesamestreet Because every single month, day, hour, minute, second is already English heritage month—even during this so-called “Arab American Heritage Month.” These designated other months/days are only reminders (and faint ones at that) that US history wasn’t just made by Anglos.

@KerryBurgess Completely wrong. Were rude to each other and will kill for parking spaces. Also, prayers would be to give thanks for the Second Amendment, which gives the right to bear arms. Victims of gun violence need to take responsibility for themselves and make better life choices.

@policytensor Warren an intellectual leader of the Dems? I don’t see it. Seems to me triangulation is still the strategy, even if they don’t call it that anymore.

@lionel_trolling I think its defenders will say it satirizes the narcissism and amorality of the wealthy. I say rather it gets cruel laughter from individuals it posits as weak or injured from a perspective of narcissistic amoral wealth: “How embarrassing we must vacation with such fools!”

@MikeSington I’m reminded of a Nietzsche quote: “If something is falling, push it over!” If it’ll fall in a month without intervention, how much faster will it fall if vigorously opposed?

@briebriejoy As for the few who do saying something about Gould's examination of the statistical methods, just saying experts have shown Gould is wrong without saying who these experts are or just what they've claimed Gould has gotten wrong isn't persuasive.

@briebriejoy I think it's curious that every time somebody brings up Mismeasure, Gould gets criticized for being a historicist and a leftwinger. They're all mute about his critique of the statistical methods (mis)used in IQ studies, which takes up quite a bit of the book.

@DavidMcNab17 @tps2203 @meadwaj @AnnPettifor I think it may be these commentators have their brands to support. Being wrong about inflation, interest, money, and employment will be hard to explain away, so they mostly traffic in straw man arguments, and never have confront what MMT actually says.

@policytensor What’s meant by peak here? There are interesting formal characteristics here missing from European common practice era art music, particularly microtones. I can appreciate those, but as someone not brought up hearing this music it doesn’t speak directly/emotionally to me.

@ianpaulwright Marx’s argumentation, IMHO, is a groping towards the concept of limit, which is how the derivative is defined rigorously today. Not bad for a guy whose field of study was classical languages and literatur

@ianpaulwright It’s so dishonest from the start. Marx wasn’t trying to “disprove the derivative” but noting that (1) infinitesimals don’t make sense and (2) trying to find a new definition that did and (3) got the same values for derived functions.
