Australia's leading researchers are forced to waste their time operating in an inefficient system. $500 million is squandered each year processing grant applications for a success rate of ~15%. The ARCs annual research fund is under $800 million. We need to do better. #research

42% of researcher time is spent doing research and grant administration. 17 million researchers, 25,000 universities. Reforming inefficient research administration processes would give researchers their time back. Imagine giving 17 million researchers a day a back for research!

Thank you for sharing this story Alex. One of thousands that are very similar. The entire grant lifecycle process is a broken. We need an end-to-end system that supports the researcher rather than building a complex matrix of unconnected systems that doesn’t. We’re building this!

Investment in research is one of the most consistent economic multipliers. We need more funding for research and better processes to make it easier to access. Linkage funding should be absorbed by Discover and a new, non-ARC translational fund should be created.

@SeartenInfo @Duncanivison @Sydney_Uni Yep - as I said, I been a beneficiary of the Linkage scheme. But that being said, I think it has run it's course. Move that funding mostly back into Discovery-larger investment in Discovery will pay back in spades for industry! And instead beef up CRC-P and other related schemes.
