@TheBeardedBook @MichaelBuono @reneereads @lbraun2000 @yalsa Knowing what your community needs as opposed to making guess about what they want. A major way to achieve this is with taking advantage of PD in your community. #777f2017
Great response. Does not offend nor take yourself too seriously. #777f2017 x.com/MichaelBuono/s…
@reneereads @MichaelBuono @TheBeardedBook I don't think we can ever be considered friends with our teen populations. However, we can be friendly and caring. We are in essence mentors, authority figures, and advocates and supporters of teens. #777f2017
Great advice. x.com/LibrarianSwoos…
@MichaelBuono @TheBeardedBook @reneereads "Code switching". Teens need to see the balance of being a professional along with maintaining the rapport and being cool. Have them be inspired by how well you work in both worlds. Communicate the need and let them observe and ask questions. #777f2017
@AmandaLibrary It also depend on if you are using IOS devices or android devices. SimplyE is really bad with Android devices. #777f2017
@shericew8780 @AmandaLibrary SimplyE has a lot of bugs too. It is my experience working with Overdrive, 360, Cloud Library and SimplyE that they all have bugs, even Amazon has bugs. #777f2017
NYPL's 2017 Best books for teens has arrived. #777f2017 x.com/nypl_teens/sta…
ITS HERE!!! Check out our #BestBooksforTeens #BBFT 2017 list -- everything from humor, to romance, and stories on the dark side, recommended by your favorite library staff for our favorite peeps -- teens! on.nypl.org/2AWdJyB #nycreads #YAlit 📚🦁🎉
@RhymeswithCheez @LibrarianSwoosh That is true, but it is the responsibility of the teen librarian to convince them otherwise. I also see that today admins are more open to serving teens, so this may be an old fear. #777f2017
@JasonReynolds83 @FirstBook This reminds me of an issue that came up in my diversity class, that some authors cannot even get books published by reputable publishers that are based in other cultures or ethnicity. Publishers are worried book won't sell so they don't publish. #777f2017
Great to know about. Thanks for bringing it to our attention x.com/libraryelly/st…
#777F2017 Great programs for teens at the Met... Teens | The Metropolitan Museum of Art: metmuseum.org/events/program… via @metmuseum
@libraryelly A great reason to make a case for teen only spaces and limiting adult access to teen spaces. #777f2017
@AmandaLibrary Libby is an app from Overdrive. I am sure that at some point they will phase out the old app. But there are still many people who prefer the old app or just simply do not want to learn a new app. #777f2017
@AmandaLibrary Use to be that it would save your log in, but they changed it. Not sure why they did this, but I know at my library a lot of patrons were complaining about the possibility of identity theft. Oh well. #777f2017
@AmandaLibrary Glitches is not the word. I work with users at all levels, the issues can be a big problem. Libby may be slightly better and it offers the exact same services. #777f2017
Giving them options and having the teens be part of that option can go a long way to preventing teen misbehavior. #777f2017 x.com/StauberMimi/st…
@LibrarianSwoosh @shericew8780 A librarian I interviewed at BK Public involved the teens in drafting a behavior policy for themselves after incidents caused tension between them and other patrons. Ownership is key, esp in this regard #777F2017
This is a great idea for educational programs. #777f2017 x.com/StauberMimi/st…
@LibrarianSwoosh Create program differentiation so that all teens may be participating in the same program but in different ways: small groups, pairs, individual work all being options for the teen whose mood is changing #777F2017
@mfclowen @MichaelBuono @TheBeardedBook @reneereads This was an issue at my library, but not with teen but adult learners. Adults who are learning to read for the first time or are ESOL students may not want to read a children's book. They may actually prefer mature stories written in simple language. #777f2017
@mfclowen @shericew8780 @TheBeardedBook I actually had the opposite experience. Worked with both teens and children and found that I prefer teaching and working with teens better. Even though there are issues, for me less parent intervention and more intellectual stimulation. #777f2017
@MichaelBuono @TheBeardedBook @reneereads I thnk teen librarians still struggle with advocacy, especially when it comes to defending teen services in the public sphere. #777f2017
