Before you call a takeoff done, check the addenda log once more. A late addendum can swap the insulation, add a roof area, or change the edge detail. Write the latest addendum number on the takeoff so everyone knows which set it matches.
Quick seam check before you order membrane: Sketch the roll direction on the roof plan first. If the layout fights the long dimension, it can add seams, fastener rows, and scrap on every run.

Monday takeoff check: count the drains twice. Once on the roof plan, once on the plumbing plan. If the counts or locations do not match, that is an RFI before it is a change order.
@GrahamSchroeder Agreed, the field is the hard part. Even in the office, drawings leave gaps someone has to catch and turn into an RFI. A faster takeoff only helps if those questions go out before bid day.

@JohnsManville On data center roofs, check whether the spec ties the taper layout to the drains on the plumbing sheets. With that much rooftop equipment, the crickets and saddles add up fast on a big footprint.

@castagra On coating bids the moisture survey drives the number. Get it before you price, and carry a unit price per SF for wet insulation replacement so the cut-outs found on day one are already covered in the contract.
@RoofCoffeeShop On ES-1, check first whether the spec wants a tested, listed edge system or shop-formed metal to match. Then carry coping, gravel stop and fascia as separate lines, and count corners and end caps instead of burying them in the LF.

Parapet walls get taken off in square feet, not just linear feet. 300 LF of parapet at 3 ft tall is 900 SF of membrane, adhesive and base flashing that never shows up on the roof plan. Pull the heights off the elevations and sections.
