Vilka aktörer tilldelas handlingskraft och ansvar, vilka skildras som passiva, som offer, som biprodukter? Vilka förklaringar betraktas som legitima? Vilka frågor anses olämpliga att ens formulera? Ty när dessa val systematiskt går i samma riktning, som i fallet Israel, uppstår en skev verklighetsbild. När detta dessutom kryddas med rent felaktiga påstående och sensationella “nyheter” som först långt i efterhand korrigeras, när skadan redan skett, är publicitetsskadan ett oöverskådligt faktum. Allvaret ska inte underskattas; när journalistiken förvandlas till aktivism förlorar den sin viktigaste tillgång - trovärdigheten. Och när trovärdigheten försvinner söker människor sig någon annanstans; till andra medier och andra partier. Det var vad som hände under migrationsdebatten. Det är vad som sker nu. Historien lär oss att verkligheten alltid till slut hinner ikapp berättelsen. Frågan är bara hur mycket förtroende som hunnit gå förlorat innan dess. För hur ska upplysningens ideal någonsin gå att återskapa när de som är satta att värna dem, medvetet och metodiskt, åderlåter dem på innehåll?”
