I've been back in Buffalo about nine months. I'm going to spell "Tonawanda" correctly on the first try any day now, I can feel it.

Voter Phyllis Norris said she voted Democrat down the board, but that she’s tired of nasty campaign rhetoric from all sides. “This has all kind of become distasteful, with what’s going on,” she said.

Voter Barrry Johnson summed up his election priorities in one word: “Democratic.” He said the county sheriff’s race is the most important of the year. “For so long we’ve had (Tim) Howard, who has been completely ridiculous,” he said. He voted for Democratic candidate Kim Beaty.

I’m covering the election in West Seneca for @thesuns_wny. Democratic town council candidate David Smaczniak is at Vigilant Fire Department. “It’s been pretty encouraging with the steady stream of people coming in and out,” he said. “It’s nice to see.”

The police department I cover publishes a weekly police blotter, and I ask for more info by email. As a journalist, it is my job to ask hard-hitting questions. Like this one. (Original blotter item in normal text, my questions in bold.)

A man unironically referred to me as a "whippersnapper" because he didn't like a story I wrote, which is a new career highlight.

if I were Joe Biden i would toss in one weird thing with the same earnest, calm demeanor ''and let's put a furby in every household! we can do it! this is america! we've talked about it long enough! it's a simple premise!' and then just keep going and never allude to it again

I wonder if Rhode Islanders would be annoyed by D.C. statehood. Living in the smallest state was kind of their thing. Flagmakers, on the other hand, would be thrilled.
