Let’s fall back to standard time this year and leave it!

No one likes changing the clock, me included, but Congress has enacted permanent Daylight Savings Time multiple times before and repealed it each time once Americans experienced absurdly late sunrises in the winter. Arkansans don’t want their kids going to school in the pitch

@GuntherEagleman No, the twice-yearly switch is outdated. Energy savings are minimal and the transitions raise accident and health risks. Permanent standard time makes more sense. It keeps morning light aligned with our circadian clocks, which sleep scientists and groups like the AASM favor for

Now that we have AGI, can we expand the 22 character limit on merchant names in credit card transactions? The resulting truncated names are frequently cryptic and confusing to my meat brain.

Sunburn is a fat going rancid inside you, and the compound it produces has a name. 4-hydroxynonenal. An aldehyde. Measurable, published, sitting in the literature for forty years. It does not come from nowhere. It is a breakdown product of omega-6. Specifically linoleic acid

I tried adding a new folder with the same name and it failed expectedly as a bad request. I mashed that create button a bunch to generate more errors as a telemetry signal.

@benjitaylor I love the new add bookmark UX. But I have a lot of folders, and I’m unable to access many of them when adding a new bookmark - it seems the list pagination is failing to trigger in the fly out for me.

@MarshaBlackburn and @SenatorHagerty please consider permanent standard time as a better solution to ending DST clock changes. In East TN, our elementary school children already board the bus in the dark all year long. Permanent DST would cause them to lose sleep throughout the winter, which is terrible for their circadian health and development. It also leads to more drowsy drivers and accidents, which sadly happened in 1974 when permanent DST was last tried. The new Sunshine for Our Kids Act is a much better bill for families in TN and across the country. Please help us SaveStandardTime.

@timburchett permanent daylight time is a terrible idea for your constituents in Knoxville. We should not be sending our kids to school in the dark, we should not deprive working folks of sleep, and we should not have more drowsy drivers in the morning. Permanent standard time is clearly a better choice for health and safety. If you get another chance to vote on this issue, please reconsider!

DEBUNKED: That study only looked at one type of crime, one time of day, one time of year. The bigger picture shows permanent DST is worst, permanent Standard Time is best. aasm.org/sleep-experts-…

@Teslarati Why did they not choose to use Qi2 / MagSafe, isn't that more efficient?

@timburchett please oppose adding the Sunshine Protection Act to H.R. 7389, the Motor Vehicle Modernization Act! In Knoxville, elementary school kids already have to wait at bus stops in the dark most of the year. This law will make for even more drowsier kids and drivers, which will lead to an increase in accidents. Our nation tried permanent DST in 1974, and it sucked so bad it was repealed right away. We should learn from that mistake. Congress should adopt permanent standard time instead, which best supports public health and safety.

@aakashgupta great post. Quick question on this statement: "In 2024 alone, 28 shut down. One per week." Should that be one shut down every ~2 weeks?

A new Tennessee bill would end the state’s twice-a-year clock changes by requiring residents to remain on standard time year-round. bit.ly/40vudM6

Local sunrises and sunsets vary greatly based on latitude and longitude. I’m a parent myself and our family loathes DST - it’s especially bad in East TN where we should really be on Standard time. Standard time results in the best balance for health and safety across all locations. Winter days are naturally shorter and Summer days are naturally longer - no clock change required.
