My fave professor just got Tenure without sacrificing her heart and soul, the whole time supporting students and community and showing up for us in a way people don't expect from our other legal scholars! 🥳🥰🤯 ~ Your fave could *literally* never!!! ~

My father was a single digit billionaire. I would hardly describe my childhood as privileged. We still cleared our own plates, my dad sewed the buttons back on his Brioni suits. Had we faced a billionaires’ tax…(1/87)

Even worse. Yale has no real policy on racism and no formal harassment procedure. Yale has no title VI office. YLS has no office of diversity. But the media is portraying Yale as a place where diversity has run rampant. In reality there are few real consequences for overt racism.

Must-read. The “cancel culture” moral panic is as ridiculous as it is dangerous. It perpetuates false equivalences, distracts from the real threat of right-wing authoritarianism, & legitimates the right’s hypocritical propaganda. The article’s “frivolous lawsuit” hook is also👌.

It’s especially scary when you think of what this means on a basic level. Black students are being told dialog is the answer. Yet people won’t actually listen when they try to say there was dialog, and no one cares about their reasoning and why they intervened in the first place.

I am one of those students. I have dozens of emails, screenshots, and statements that directly contradict this cancel culture frenzy. We literally tried to speak to our peers and educate them. Don’t stereotype us as eggshell snowflakes. Listen to us. See the screenshot above?

But so far only our college newspaper @yaledailynews has even bothered to engage with any of these contrary depictions of what happened. Not one has questioned why it took Trent a month to come forward, how his story changed, and how this may benefit him and his organization.

I know at least five different Black students at YLS who have gone to multiple news channels and newspapers with direct evidence contesting the “cancel culture” media circus that Trent Colbert started. None of them has received a reply. I thought dialog was the answer?

@NAChristakis @monicacbell @conor64 @SajaSpearman You have a SERIOUSLY partial record from a student who went to the media a month after the event and 3 weeks after admin said there would be zero consequences. You also seem to ignore the Black students attempting to give you a fuller record. Seems overtly biased. Disappointing.

@conor64 @monicacbell @shyam_ala @NAChristakis @aashaik16 @SajaSpearman Maybe you should trust the people who actually know the humans involved and what parties at Yale can be like… to tell you if it was insensitive? We also had no idea if Trent was ignorant or not because he didn’t have an explanation until a month later when he was on CNN.

@conor64 @shyam_ala @NAChristakis @aashaik16 @monicacbell @SajaSpearman “Gen Z folks.” How many Black people did you ask? Did you notice any correlation to who knew it? 🤣 Also since when does ignorance mean you can say something offensive in a hyper professional setting with zero repercussions and nothing but good will? That’s how society works?

Been a lot of pearl clutching from media and free speechers about a YLS student’s right to use a derogatory term, and meanwhile govts are actually banning an entire concept from schools… and I haven’t seen nearly the same panic … cant put my finger on the issue.
