ATLANTIC HURRICANE SEASON: Officially the quietest and least on record through today since 1950. Accumulated Cyclone Energy (ACE) is what we use to measure the season. Think of a hurricane's category as how hard it can punch, but ACE is the score of how many rounds it stays in the ring swinging. It’s basically a storm's ultimate "stamina tracker," measuring not just how strong the winds get, but how long the beast actually lasts! Interesting: if you were wondering, those other years ended up with the following number of hurricanes… 1994 (3) 1962 (4) 1983 (3) 2002 (4) Point being; still quiet for the next 1-2 weeks but after that we’ll see heading into October. Fingers crossed but it has truly been uncharted waters how tame it has been this year so far, which is good!

To access ensemble tropical products: select a global ensemble and choose an option from the Tropical menu. Model spaghetti plots: select ATCF at the bottom of the list of hurricane models.

The tropics might finally wake up next week and into October. Seems like a good time, considering the heat dome over the Southeast is preventing strong shear from reaching into the Gulf. Certainly something to watch.
