Tonight in 1980, Howard Cosell informs a stunned Monday Night Football audience that John Lennon has been shot dead in New York City. It’s been 43 years now, somehow, and this is still a hard one for me to watch.
@Super70sSports Can we also agree it was a hard one to watch given it was the Patriots in 1980?
@Super70sSports I cried like a child, which I kind of was. This just happened to be on right now. We all shine on.
@Super70sSports The documentary ESPN did about it was awesome, might have a few beers tonight and rewatch it.
@Super70sSports oh i guess i was born on a monday then. cool
@Super70sSports Never forget he willingly slept with this
As an 8-year-old hearing about it. At the time I didn't understand until I saw my mom cry. We had just finished putting the Christmas decorations up. The news was on with a special report. I then understood the magnitude of this death. So mom put on the new album we just bought a couple of weeks ago and started playing it beginning to end. No X-mas music just John Lennon. I remember "Just Like(Starting Over)" playing and the eerie sound after the tragedy. I never forgot that song, moment, and my mom's tears. #RIPJohnLennon 😭😭
@Super70sSports Bedtime was 9:00, but Mom fell asleep so I got to watch the game. I remember this vividly…woke her up, told her, she started crying. I was only 10, but I knew he was a Beatle.
@Super70sSports Great great man. Pure genius. All we are saying 🙏
