Today I had the chance visiting some future projects from our collection that have potential research/ treatment options like this 18th century dress with beautiful fabric design that look like those made by Anna Maria Garthwaite during the 18th (photo from V&A website).
Appreciating the value of cloth was taken for granted for much of the #c19th. This luminous floral brocade comes from a much earlier garment of the #c18th but was #refashioned into a different style sometime perhaps half a century later. @JBCollection_uk #fashionhistory

A recent donation of some rare tintype images taken on Perranporth Beach. People posed for their pictures against the back drop of the cliffs and the photographer developed their images in a nearby cave.
Under the linen glass: A hand-cut silk velvet from our archive dating back to when Gainsborough first opened its doors in 1903 Originally founded hand-weaving silk damask, figured velvet and brocade, Gainsborough quickly made a name within the industry for beauty and craftmanship
Here is another expanded detail of the 1630s-40s embroidery we have been sharing photos of. We will share an image of the entire piece tomorrow. You can really see the variety of metal threads on show: passing, silk-wrapped purl, smooth purl, pearl purl, bullion, wire, twist, etc
Very happy with the new acquisition at our Textile Conservation Library thanks to a generous donation. A late 19 century swatch book registering the synthetic dye industry in Europe (Germany). We love those donations THANK YOU 😊
