7/ This is where Texture comes in to provide a connective tissue in the energy ecosystem. We’re building in energy, but what we’re solving is a connectivity and tech stack challenge. Other industries like shipping, ecommerce and fintech have seen this before.
6/ Lucky for us, the opportunity is attracting great founders. But like the early days of ecommerce and fintech, they’re building without the support of standards and shared tools.
5/ Why should everyone care? Price volatility and reliability all depend on supply and demand of energy being well orchestrated. Last year, our electricity bills saw the largest increase since 1984. The US has also seen more blackouts than any other developed nation.
4.2/There’s an explosion in distributed energy resources (DERs) which we love, but this also makes orchestration more difficult and more important. The hardware is doing its job, now we need software.
4/ So, why are we working on this? The push towards renewables and electrification is adding computing and electricity demand to the grid faster than we did to the internet.
3/ What is Texture? There’s a lot to share about the product vision, but in summary Texture is building a data platform to enable conversations between different devices and systems on the energy grid, at a fraction of the complexity, time and cost of today.
