Charlie Kirk's assassin was not "radicalized". He was not a radical. He was an average, default, base model leftist. I've had coworkers in nice tech jobs who talk like him. I've seen people at my church talk like him. The guys who doxxed me talk like him. People on CNN talk just like him. The assassination stands out not for its tragedy, but for its normalicy. Tyler Robinson didn't leave behind some schizophrenic manifesto about the necessity of marijuana eco-eugenicsm. No, he left the same lines news organizations to this day use. "fascist". "harm narratives." "spreading hate." "White nationalism." "inflammatory statements". The shooter's ideology was indistinguishable from an MSNBC article, or any speech given in congress by any Democrat in both the house and the senate. The killer was not some feral homeless person on the subway, nor some brain fried drug addict experiencing a psychotic break, He wasn't having a violent outburst due to stress. He was a normal, modal, basic, bland leftist- who decided to put his normal leftists beliefs into practice. Beliefs ~20% of Americans (those that vote Democrat) casually hold.This cannot be allowed to continue. If Trump had not won, this still would have happened, except the killer would be declared to have been acting legally, as an approved outlet of the USAID machine. He would have gofundmes for his bail and a quick release through a Soros district attorney. It would not have made the news, and there would be no possibility of justice. I am not in favor of doxxing leftists and getting them fired from their jobs, but it must happen. It must happen because these are the rules the left has asked for, the rules they have played by for two decades, the rules that celebrate assassination of milquetoast podcasters for no reason other than that they are publically republican. Allowing leftists to dance and spit on Charlie's grave is not "mercy", it is not "avoiding rocking the boat", it isn't "creating a stable and civilized society." It's suicide, its cowardice, and its a dereliction of duty towards right wing values of virtue, pragmatism, and law and order. You cannot gentle parent your way out of this. Leftist forums, the ones that Robinson frequented, the leftists on discord, bluesky, and reddit, have not changed, they say the same things, they advocate the same ideals. Even if you are not a right winger, you are integrity bound to understand that your values of cetrist civility are not going to win these people over or cause them to stand down. You are not going to earn their respect through being nice. They are not going to reciprocate decency. They view you as a fool, not a role model. That is not even on the table. Not for any of these people and not for any of their leaders, who are currently and already in power. You are not being moral. You are lying. You are lying to yourself, and you are acting as an agent to harbor terrorism under the flagrantly ineffective ideal of criminal reformation. And you need to stop. In like manner to his shooter, Charlie Kirk views were not radical. He was a normal guy, with a normal family, with normal hobbies and a loving wife. I know dozens of people who talk just like him. This was not the assassination of some hyper offensive crank, one crackpot to another. It was the assassination of your coworker, your grandma, your pewmate, all the people you know who are "conservative, but don't really like talking about politics." It could have been any of them, if they were just a slight bit more outspoken. This is the political situation in America. Leftists keep telling us, constantly, that if they are not met with overwhelming force, they intend to go right back to how things were, right back to the state sponsoring the lifestyles of those who would assassinate and more your normal, regular, basic, normal friends and family. They do not want to leave you alone, they want you broke, dead, your kids raped and brainwashed, and they think its funny. The fact that you hold these ideals at all counts as provocation in their minds. If you were on the other side of the planet they would still advocate your disenfranchisement. Treating them as anything less than absolutely hostile, holistically hostile, is complicity. And for what? Because you couldn't be bothered? You cannot afford to not be bothered. There are no values they will not be offended by, there is nothing pure or lasting that they are not coming for. I want charity too. I would prefer not to be mean to people. I like civility and peace. I want to believe in "talking things out." But if you want that world, the one Charlie Kirk himself strove for, you have to acknowledge this reality: "Being Nice" only works when you are carrying a very, very large stick.

I don't think people really understand the fight between Paul Graham and Palmer Luckey which played out this week. To the general public, from a casual perspective, it seemed like two rich guys getting in a heated, impulsive debate on Twitter, dragging out for days. It's not. Paul is worth ~$2.5 billion. Palmer is worth ~$5 billion. Nothing these guys do is impulsive. They've been sitting on this for years. They were arguing in private for months, maybe years, before Palmer decided this week was the correct window of opportunity to make a public attack. Paul Graham is one of the intellectual fulcrum points of Silicon Valley. He funds everyone. He sets the tone. He shapes the agenda. Entry-level professionals mimic his style, his worldview, his mannerisms, the way Paul talks. Everyone parrots his beliefs and policies and essays, as chameleon strivers who are trying to get ahead and climb the social ladder. All of Silicon Valley revolves around a handful of key figures, and Paul Graham was (perceived as) one of the intellectual titans who the entire industry orbited as sycophants. Palmer challenged all that. Paul is an elite, Palmer is an elite, and Palmer Luckey chose to publicly challenge the status quo; the elite consensus; the perceived legitimacy of incumbent elits and their institutions. And he did this for a reason: Palmer is aiming to take the role of Paul Graham, of being the new intellectual godfather of Silicon Valley, based around a new set of ideas: reindustrialization, patriotism, protectionism... rather than America as a deracinated cosmopolitan economic zone to be strip-mined by Third World foreigners. It's much bigger than a Twitter argument. Palmer was publicly demonstrating that the Emperor had no clothes, and that he was strong enough to MOG Paul Graham and get away with it, while other Silicon Valley tech workers would be terrified of making an enemy who could suffocate future business ventures and block potential funding. Palmer Luckey is the face of a new military-industrialist consensus which is seeking to hire American workers for American jobs, to build factories and weapons at home, to remilitarize and reindustrialize, to get away from asset inflation and FIRE (finance, insurance, real estate) as a sterile, parasitic rent-seeking economic system. That's the subtext for all of this. It's a public signal of a rising counterelite challenging a stagnant, ossified status quo which can no longer justify or defend their own claim to power.

The most important type of intelligence assessment is telling the difference between a surface appearance of intellectualism, and the actual capability to understand complex relationships between cause and effect. Because it's easy to spot when someone is dumb. What's harder to discern is when someone is pretending to punch above his weight class. Go watch a recorded speech given by Barrack Obama, or Christopher Hitchens. If you don't listen carefully, you could easily be fooled into thinking these men were intelligent. They speak in ways that sound like how smart people speak. But, for a moment, imagine you were to take the ideas in their eloquent speeches, and restate them using the phraseology and vocabulary of a stereotypical construction worker... would either of them still appear intelligent? No. They would not. The ideas, stripped bare of rhetorical frills and fancy presentation, reveal themselves as simple restatements of bumper-sticker level political and social commentary. You see, plenty of people are clever enough to watch the habits of genius and imitate them. But geniuses are not geniuses because they are eloquent. They are eloquent because they are geniuses. Eloquence, and other such habits, are a side effect of genius, not its essential nature. The side effects of genius can be imitated with study. The core functions cannot. Because anyone who can is, by definition, a genius. And now, for those of you who have been more patient with me than I deserve, and are still following along, we have at last arrived at a general principle we can use. If you want to know how truly intelligent someone is, take him out of his comfort zone. Make him do something new, learn something he's never learned, try a skill he's never practiced, solve a problem he has never faced before. How does he adapt? How does he think? How does he learn? Without his thousands of hours of practice, without all his familiar tools neatly stashed in his comfort zone, a man is forced to fall back on who he is, on the genetic recipe that makes him. This doesn't mean that he will make no mistakes, or that he will magically know what he could only learn from experience. But it means that he will learn quickly, understand each mistake as soon as he makes it, and never make the same error twice. This is why we prize genius. Not because it speaks pretty words or covers whiteboards in complex mathematically formulae, but because genius learns. And then genius teaches. Genius captures knowledge from the world for the rest of humanity. So if you want to spot it, ignore the habits, ignore the frills and tells and tics, and watch how it engages with the unfamiliar.
