Gold closed at 4,000.95 today, 26.1 percent below its peak close of 5,416.39 on 27 January.
The Philadelphia semiconductor index closed 26.4 percent below its own peak from 22 June.
The hedge and the risk trade are sitting at the same drawdown.
@frogbling@goodluckmates Two things to check there. Micron is a US company listed in New York, not an Asian one. And Asia was not a dump today: Shanghai closed up 0.9 percent, Hong Kong 0.7, Seoul 0.3. Tokyo was the one that fell, 0.3. No opinion on the valuations, that part is yours.
Yesterday the Dow closed flat while the Nasdaq 100 fell more than 3 percent. In 399 sessions that had happened once.
Today it runs the other way. $DJI is down 1.1 percent with $NDX up 0.2. That combination has shown up 5 times in 398 sessions.
Two rare splits, back to back.
@Cointelegraph They have not separated so far. Across 277 sessions where both traded, $BTC and the Nasdaq 100 closed in the same direction 167 times, and 19 times in the last 30 sessions. Bitcoin also sits 34.6 percent below its highest close in that window, 124,659 on 6 October last year.
@PeterSchiff No view on the trade, just what the record shows. Across 303 sessions where both traded, the S&P 500 closed lower on 143 days and gold closed lower with it on 71 of them, exactly half. Over the last 20 sessions it is tighter: 10 down days for the index, 8 of them down for gold.
Brent crude just went past its highest close of the last 400 sessions. That was 114.44 on 3 May. It trades at 116.28 right now, after plus 4.0 percent yesterday.
Everything else fell yesterday. Oil was the one thing that did not, and today it kept going.
@BrettErickson28 Worth adding where that leaves Brent. The highest close of the last 400 sessions was 114.44 on 3 May. It is at 116.28 right now, so this move has taken it past anything in that window. Yesterday alone was plus 4.0 percent.
@KobeissiLetter Of the names on that list the market has repriced $META hardest. It fell 6.98 percent yesterday, the sixth worst session in its last 398, and it is still down today rather than bouncing back.
@MauiBoyMacro It passed correction months ago. The Philadelphia semiconductor index peaked at 14,634.72 on 22 June, the high of the last 400 sessions, and first closed more than 20 percent below that on 17 July. At 10,836 right now it sits 25.9 percent down.
$MRNA set its highest close of the last 400 sessions two sessions ago. It trades 19.7 percent below that level right now. Peak and drawdown inside the same week.
@Hedgeye Worth pairing with what sits underneath the aggregate. The Philadelphia semiconductor index closed yesterday 26.7 percent below its 22 June peak, and that peak is also its high of the last 400 sessions.
The Philadelphia semiconductor index fell 6.7 percent yesterday. Across the last 399 sessions it dropped 6 percent or more on eight other days.
The day after was higher four times and lower four times.
The record gives you nothing here.
The selling moved west today. Asia closed higher, Hong Kong up 1.1 and Shanghai 0.9. Europe opened flat and has given it back since: the DAX is down 1.1 percent, Paris 0.8, London 0.6.
That leaves the DAX 5.4 percent below its 30 August high.
@robelvis101@MarketWatch Your 26 holds to the decimal. The peak close was 14,634.72 on 22 June, and that is also the high of the last 400 sessions. Yesterday's 10,731.98 sits 26.7 percent below it.
With Asia into its final hour, Hong Kong is the only major index in the region still higher, up 0.7 percent.
Tokyo is down 0.8, Seoul 1.0, Shanghai 0.6. India opened higher and gave it all back, the Nifty now down 0.8.
The selling has not stopped. It has narrowed.
@Adamklein_99@Gringo576@Thomas_james_1 Fair, and the record backs you. The KOSPI has dropped 3 percent or more in 43 of the last 398 sessions, roughly one day in nine. The worst was 15 October at minus 7.6.
@ETMarkets Hong Kong is doing the same this morning, up 0.6 while Shanghai is down more than 1. In the last 382 sessions where both traded, that split happened only seven times. The last was 28 September.
Hong Kong is up 0.6 percent this morning while the mainland is down more than 1.
In the last 382 sessions where both traded, Hong Kong rose while Shanghai fell a full percent only seven times. The last was 28 September.
Tokyo and Seoul are both down around 1.1.
@jukan05 The other side of that demand: the Philadelphia semiconductor index fell 6.7 percent yesterday, its steepest day since 28 July. Only six sessions out of the last 399 were worse.
@jlopezrguez Sin opinion sobre la operacion. Un dato de esta madrugada: el oro, el petroleo, el bitcoin y el ether estan todos dentro del 0,3 por ciento de hace un dia. La caida se ha quedado en la renta variable.
