@jasonandrade @IrcWas @joshgnosis Fibre doesn’t carry a single IP network over it. It can be divided up into multiple “virtual” physical networks. Multiple L3 networks multiplexed over a single L2 network. BGP is a L3 concern, outages on one L3 shouldn’t affect another L3 that happens to be sharing the same L2

@joshgnosis And, the “peer” would have been sending this route info for years, the info is likely correct, but Optus had special config for it (such as a routing override). Or a filter for bad routes. Suspect their config update removed this.

@joshgnosis Borking a routing config in this way is bad - but so common that it’s well-known, expected & should be routine to fix. Was there no independent management network to do admin - another standard thing. Why did it take so long to identify & roll back

@msmegwatson it’s a “gay love story” not a “queer love story”. HBO spent millions on 45 minutes of tv devoted to two gay guys in a gay relationship. It’s ok to write the word “gay” when referring to two gays in a gay relationship on a gay tv show that you are reporting on.
