It’s #spring in the northern hemisphere, so, to restock your vitamin D levels (that possibly got depleted during the winter months), make sure you go outdoors and get sufficient exposure to #sunlight. #IBD patients with healthy levels of vitamin D are less likely to get a #flare!

A simple fact to remember and live by — The period of remission is when you can exercise the most control over your (future) disease course, the period of a flare the least… Preventing a flare from developing is easier than getting rid of one that has already developed.

Did you know? It is believed that #serotonin (a biochemical that regulates our mood & happiness) and #ulcerativecolitis are interconnected. During a flare, serotonin levels in the gut drop, potentially increasing susceptibility to stress, which may in turn intensify the flare.

According to a Danish IBD study from 2018, a Vitamin D deficiency may lead to elevated disease activity, more frequent relapses (flares), higher post-operative recurrence and a poorer quality of life...... Better keep those Vitamin D levels up! #IBD #ulcerativecolitis
