@EndWokeness Lord help all of these deeply offended snowflakes commenting here -- did these mere pictures violate your previous safe-space notions of gender? :(

@EndWokeness Ah I see, so the problem is his hair, not the fact that his act of peaceful protest was deemed "worse" than 1/6 rioters who destroyed property and assaulted police officers -- got it! Where would we be without clueless nitwits telling black people how to be authentically black?

@BONDBREAKR_ATX @lachellerising @verymimi Exactly - the author has given us nothing to suggest that this piece is meant to serve as both the beginning and the end of this conversation, so again I question the need to dismiss the observations therein.

The article is not an apology; the apology is the lead that is then justified by an examination of what JS experienced during the peak of per popularity. Acknowledgement is just one aspect of what the article lays out.

@lachellerising Moreover, the travails of Jessica Simpson as outlined in the article are of a much different nature than the singers you have mentioned, and absolutely deserve to be brought to light. There is nothing to be gained by excluding or dismissing her story.

@verymimi @lachellerising The two approaches you have outlined are not mutually exclusive. The only real way to address the toxic effects of the system is to first examine the ways in which it has impacted and continues to impact the individuals who find themselves trapped in it.

@lachellerising There is nothing to be gained by negating a particular instance in the interest of larger point. The larger point itself cannot materialize without first examining the specifics of the particular.

The Texas winterstorm has claimed the life of one of our band member's relatives. Save your bad jokes for another time. We're not equipped for this and it's not fucking funny.

@The_Lone_Apple @NewYorker This article was published in 1995, so no, it is not related to any sort of current phenomenon. Similarly Chinua Achebe has been making these arguments since the late 70s.

@thatmeanguy @BLABBERMOUTHNET It certainly will for successful, high-grossing artists but it’s the small to mid-tier sector that is really in question. The infrastructure is basically crumbling before our eyes.
