On most embedded Linux routers and IoT devices, the entire firmware sits on a single 8-pin chip soldered to the board: the SPI NOR flash, usually in a SOIC-8 package. It stores the bootloader, the compressed Linux filesystem (SquashFS), the NVRAM configuration partition, and often the Wi-Fi credentials and admin password hash in plaintext. You do not need to unsolder it. A $5 SOIC-8 test clip snaps directly over the chip's legs while the device is powered off. Connect it to a CH341A USB programmer, then run: flashrom -p ch341a_spi -r firmware.bin In under 90 seconds you have a full binary image of the chip. Run binwalk -e firmware.bin to extract the filesystem. Navigate to squashfs-root/etc/ and you find the shadow file with the admin hash, and the wireless config with the Wi-Fi passphrase. The chip has no access control, no encryption, no authentication at all, its only protection is that it requires physical access to the board.

This statement from Microsoft, regarding the 6,000 H-1B visa applications this year, is wildly dishonest. I spent many years working at Microsoft in the late 90s through the early 2000’s. During that time I experienced and witnessed widespread discrimination against White employees. - Long time “rockstar” White devs were given lower review ratings (and, hence, fewer pay raises) than their Indian co-workers (who were regularly less productive). Not occasionally. This happened so often that it was the norm. - Indian managers would primarily only hire other Indian (and occasionally other Asian) applicants over White or Black applicants. Even when the White applicants were more qualified and local… and the Indian applicants required visa sponsorship, relocation costs, and extra accommodations. Again, not every now and then. This was the norm. - On one time, the Indian management at Microsoft stuffed every White, Male employee (and ONLY White, Male employees) into a small office the size of a closet… while every Indian employee (even new, entry level ones) were given their own offices. Often with fancy-shmancy views. I’ve kept in touch with many Microsoft engineers and managers… and, from everything I’ve heard from actual Microsoft employees, the situation has not improved in the slightest. It has gotten worse in many teams and Business Units. Yes, most Microsoft employees in the USA are citizens of the USA. But they are not treated equally. blogs.microsoft.com/on-the-issues/…

Robert Jenrick has been reported to the police and the UK's counter-terror programme Prevent over his comments about Islam. He’d described the “Islamification” of Britain as one of the greatest threats to “our way of life.” I’m not Jenrick’s biggest fan but he’s clearly spot on here. We are a Christian country being taken over by Islam! That politicians are reported for stating the obvious is dangerously worrying. We are governed by a police state.
