For others, we are made invisible and disappeared through various practices of exclusion, including a ‘closed’ family court system which quietly disappears our children. Regardless, we find that our various specific struggles require us to take to the streets. (19/20)
To summarise - all of us who are impacted by patriarchy experience a politicisation of our existence. However, for some, that politicisation makes us hypervisible - meaning our very existence can be questioned and threatened in highly public ways. (18/20)
The ways in which the state treats pregnant people who use drugs - especially when they are poor and/or people of colour, is not a far cry from these conditions. (17/20)
Finally, @JoellePuccio from the Academy of Perinatal Harm Reduction powerfully began by defining the conditions of genocide - including practices of forcibly taking children, preventing birth, and bringing about death directly or through poor living conditions. (16/20)
.@ailishbrenx of @WHRINetwork, underscored how trans women's very existence is politicised; within communities of trans women, specialist harm reduction mutual aid practices have been passed down through generations. We must translate these practices into services. (14/20)
.@annaddition echoed this need to fight and resist. In her work with mothers who use drugs in the NE of England, there is a recognition that the current services aren’t fit for purpose. Fighting for change must happen alongside plugging the current gaps (13/20)
.@Metzineres_org offers a different path forward: one of activism of care, where the fight for rights and towards liberation is taken to the streets, and a community of collective resistance is formed. (12/20)
Safer consumption spaces can erase the fact that people affected by patriarchy are still only just surviving -not thriving - as a result of the over-institutionalisation of critical harm reduction, mental health, and other support services. (11/20)
