Kurzweil's AGI prediction succeeded because: 1. Moore’s law held for transistor density 2. Intelligence is achieved via sufficiently large blob of learnable parameters in a simple architecture I always thought P(#2) was only 25% and Kurzweil a 🤡, but in retrospect I am humbled.

My 2c is that we just shouldn't have certain medical patents because they are too expensive (often impossible) to enforce. Instead, govt/docs/interests should just make a list of inventions they need, and govt should just award huge cash prize to inventor (ie buy patent upfront)

The next crisis is likely to arrive w/out a warning. Prices used to be the proverbial canaries that flashed red in advance but no more - central banks got all of the "canaries" (repos, stocks, bonds, etc) hooked up to oxygen & they will keep chirping happy tunes to the very end.
