As a formerly obese person, I can say that there are many people who prefer that fat people stay fat. In part, it's for leverage. But it's also because losing the weight, especially without GLP-1s/phen fen/whatever the wonder drug of the age is, is the ultimate battle with one's self and tendencies toward addiction. And most people don't want to look into their own souls and figure out what the fatal error is. The substance, whatever it is, is immaterial. The real battle is with the traumas and ingrained patterns that drive overconsumption. And once you emerge from that, once you really conquer it, both pleasure and pain mean much less than they did before, and you might find yourself lamenting your inability to 'feel' as you did when locked into the dopamine loop.
