@_anti_pelados @birdietheborzoi @spacemanrhys And if you choose to post your thoughts about it, you can’t do that and expect people not to comment what they think. You’re allowed to judge her choices and, by the same token, others are allowed to judge you if you’re unkind in your judgement 🤷🏻‍♀️

@hookinemgood @MikeVivian18 @kitten_flakes If you can’t conceive of a world where human motives & behaviors are more complicated than animals’ there’s nothing to say. I’m amazed by the complexity & ever-evolving nature of human culture—if you can’t imagine anything beyond your base animal instincts then I’m sorry for you.

@hookinemgood @MikeVivian18 @kitten_flakes She is not exactly replicating it—if she was she would be wearing Jigida beads. Therefore, the absolute most you could claim is that she’s doing an interpolation—which also means that you cannot ascribe exact meaning here.

@hookinemgood @MikeVivian18 @kitten_flakes Also, I quite literally have a degree in this field. Would you care to cite your educational credentials in this matter? I’m begging to see the scholarly articles that directly support your claim that this couldn’t possibly be anything but what you, apparently the expert, say.

@hookinemgood @MikeVivian18 @kitten_flakes 3/3 No relevance as a rite of passage, spiritual practice, storytelling vehicle, declaration of identity, and so on. Cultural practice & performance is inherently multifaceted. To say it’s less than it is just means that you’re only capable of appreciating one thing about it.

@hookinemgood @MikeVivian18 @kitten_flakes 2/3 Furthermore, to reduce any cultural tradition or performance to being exclusively about one thing is an incredibly bold claim, and I’d like to see some concrete scholarship that says “actually there is no significance to this ritual whatsoever outside of attracting men.”

@MikeVivian18 @kitten_flakes This is such an insane claim that I’m desperate to know what historical evidence you’ve based it on (and if this means you think men didn’t dance when “dancing was created”?)

@RussianBot8240 @buggirl Oh that’s wild! For me I really appreciated that he had such a defined voice, tone, and cadence for her that felt specific in a way that I think a lot of male narrators miss the mark on by focusing too much on just sounding feminine. But to each their own!!

@buggirl It is my #1 favorite audiobook, he absolutely knocks it out of the park. It’s also the only book that I insist is 100x better as an audiobook (having read it both ways, this book was simply MADE to be listened to, especially with RP narrating!)
