I think I’m gonna take it as a sign… good riddance!
Hats off to doctoral student and podcaster Zhong Shu in Beijing, China, who did this fascinating and smart interview with Christopher Nolan about THE ODYSSEY yesterday, originally posted to Bilibili. A great listen/watch.
‘SHERLOCK’ starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman and Andrew Scott premiered 16 years ago today.
Christopher Nolan says Goya's painting of Saturn eating his son was a big inspiration for the Cyclops in ‘THE ODYSSEY’. “[What] makes it the most frightening is that from the monster's POV, they're not a monster. We're irrelevant to them, and that's what's really scary.” (Source: @KevinMcCarthyTV)
Careful not to misread Nolan’s message here. Agamemnon’s armor in The Odyssey is deliberately oversized and exaggerated because he represents human ego, ready to sacrifice absolutely everything for personal gain. He is Nolan’s symbol of what destroys humanity.
Have we ever seen a character with such an aura?
Christopher Nolan says The Odyssey is ultimately about the idea that a society can only function through respect for strangers. He believes that, despite 3,000 years passing since Homer, that fundamental truth about human nature hasn’t changed.
Expanding on my original thought, Nolan's Trojan Horse twists one of humanity's most sacred acts gift giving. A gift from the gods, becomes a vessel for unimaginable violence. It's a chilling reminder that war corrupts even our most universal expressions of humanity!
Nolan's The Odyssey makes the Trojan Horse haunting by framing it as a corruption of Zeus's sacred law of xenia. A gift meant to symbolize trust becomes an instrument of annihilation. War doesn't just destroy people it teaches us how to weaponize our humanity.
volevo partecipare alle recenti e accese polemiche sul film di Nolan, segnalando che l'attrice che interpreta la maga Circe non è veramente una maga.

It’s important that you understand what happened last night. Last night, Stephen Colbert interviewed Democratic Texas Senate candidate James Talarico, a candidate who, by all accounts, is on track in the polls to flip Texas blue. In response, Trump’s FCC reportedly threatened CBS if the interview aired. CBS caved and pulled the segment, citing “financial reasons.” In modern American history, no president has been more hostile to free speech than Donald Trump. But censorship always backfires. Here’s the full segment Trump didn’t want you to see.
🚨 MUST WATCH: Pam Bondi just had a total meltdown when Joe Neguse asked this simple question.
Bondi: "There is no evidence that Donald Trump has committed a crime" Lieu: "I believe you just lied under oath." Bondi: "Don't you ever accuse me of a crime" Lieu: "I’m showing you evidence." I think Pam Bondi’s "career" has just come to an end today.
