I might have lived through a different pandemic than Martin here, but I think mobile morgue trucks, mass graves, overwhelmed hospitals with makeshift ICUs, and having families say their goodbyes over iPads were far more disturbing.

Infuriating, called #111 to get an appt at a WIC for my frail 93 year old granddad for an x-ray (as per Litherland WIC website). Instead they’ve sent him to Aintree A&E where he will likely wait 6+ hours. No wonder A&Es are drowning when the service set out to help is failing it

I will never understand the sense of urgency that a 1 day hx of runny nose can cause that would make someone decide to show up in the ED at 4am… Like why?

Does anyone else in EM feel like they live in 2 completely separate but parallel universes? The war zone ‘in work’ and then the one ‘outside work’ where no one seems to have a clue what ED is going through. Its like retreating from a battlefield that no-one knows exists

Watching the marches against mandatory vaccination for NHS staff and I'm angry. A long and rambling thread follows:
It is time for a national discussion about what it is reasonable to expect for emergency medical care from #NHS. We can no longer just see everybody and anyone who turns up at A&Es’ doors. It is just not possible. We have to be there for the acutely unwell and injured.

A&E departments are staffed, skilled, equipped and big enough to (just about) cope with genuine Emergency demand. We cannot handle the volume of non-emergency work that is currently coming in on top of it. System is broken. Urgent solutions needed.
